Sun Country Airlines celebrates new nonstop routes to major metro destinations

Minnesota travelers this spring and summer now have eight new nonstop routes to choose from when flying out of MSP Airport – including to key metro areas such as Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York City via Newark.

Twin Cities-based Sun Country Airlines celebrated its new routes with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and customer appreciation event at Minneapolis-St. Paul International's Terminal 2 on Friday, April 19. In January, Sun Country announced the new nonstop routes – as well as 11 more nonstop routes from other U.S. airports.

"We're excited that these new routes allow us to provide more destinations for Minnesotans and create jobs in the Twin Cities," said Sun Country CEO Jude Bricker. "We are experiencing record growth already in 2019 and it's great to have days like today to celebrate alongside our guests."

The additional eight nonstop routes from MSP represent a nearly 20 percent increase in destinations Sun Country offers Twin Cities flyers. The announcement also represents the largest addition of routes in the company's history as a scheduled service airline.

Providing customer choices
"Sun Country Airlines has been an icon at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and an icon in our community for 37 years," said Brian Ryks, CEO and executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC). "We are so pleased to be celebrating with you today and look forward to continuing our partnership as we grow together."

Encouraging and facilitating new and additional air service options is one way the MAC, which operates MSP, works to fulfill its vision of providing travelers with their "best airport experience."
