Aviation "geeks" gather for a good view and plane talk; next event Jan. 13

On Sunday, Dec. 2, approximately 200 aviation enthusiasts visited the newly opened Altitude lounge on the 12th floor of the InterContinental MSP Airport Hotel to take in the highest and most scenic view of MSP Airport's campus.

The hotel and MSP Airport posted a co-hosted Facebook event in mid-November and within days more than 500 people had indicated an interest in attending.
By Dec. 1, that number had climbed to more than 900.

"We knew many of the local aviation enthusiasts who follow MSP's Facebook page would love to have the chance to view the airport from this vantage point," said Melissa Scovronski, manager of public affairs and marketing. "What we didn't expect is just how many would show up and hang out for hours with us, chatting about all things aviation."

Representatives from the MSP Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Tower and TRACON were also in attendance. They even brought a live flight scanner and maps for an authentic geek-out experience.

The event was so successful that the hotel and airport plan to host more. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check out MSP's Facebook page for more details.
